Characteristics & Recommended Applications

The following characteristics should be considered when determining the Tripoli product that would provide the desired properties for the application:

  • possesses a natural characteristic of friability, regardless of the size of the particle.
  • particles break down or crumble into smaller particles as they are being applied.
  • larger Tripoli particles will cut a surface when first applied.  As the particles break down into smaller sizes, they begin to polish or color the finished item
  • the larger the particle size, the more aggressive cut resulting in little polish or color.  The smaller the particle size, the less cut and more polish or color will result.
  • Cream Tripoli is a softer material than Rose Tripoli.
    • Rose will always have more cut and less polish ability than Cream.
    • Both will produce the same result but Cream will always be less aggressive.
  • Item to be buffed or polished will dictate the Tripoli product applied.  Review the American Tripoli Product Recommendation chart below for appropriate uses.
